A Christmas staple in the Evangelos household is mulled wine. Not only is it a delicious hot beverage to enjoy on a crisp winter's evening, but it also makes the whole house smell festive and cozy.
The best thing about this recipe is that it isn't too complex and doesn't take a ton of time to make. So if you have a last minute gathering with some friends, this is an easy recipe to whip up.
Ingredients
1 bottle of red wine (Chef Jered recommends a cabernet sauvignon or a spicy shiraz)
1/4 cup maple syrup or honey (or half and half if you want to mix things up)
1/2 cup of cognac or brandy
1 orange, sliced (if you can find a blood orange, even better!)
1/4 cup fresh or frozen whole cranberries
1 tsp of vanilla extract
4 whole cloves
4 whole star anise pods
3 cinnamon sticks
Instructions
Add all ingredients to a pot and stir together.
Set to medium heat for 15 minutes.
Turn heat to low and let simmer.
Ladle mulled wine into your vessel of choice and garnish with orange slices and cinnamon stick.
Enjoy responsibly!
