A Christmas staple in the Evangelos household is mulled wine. Not only is it a delicious hot beverage to enjoy on a crisp winter's evening, but it also makes the whole house smell festive and cozy.
The best thing about this recipe is that it isn't too complex and doesn't take a ton of time to make. So if you have a last minute gathering with some friends, this is an easy recipe to whip up.
Ingredients
- 1 bottle of red wine (Chef Jered recommends a cabernet sauvignon or a spicy shiraz)
- 1/4 cup maple syrup or honey (or half and half if you want to mix things up)
- 1/2 cup of cognac or brandy
- 1 orange, sliced (if you can find a blood orange, even better!)
- 1/4 cup fresh or frozen whole cranberries
- 1 tsp of vanilla extract
- 4 whole cloves
- 4 whole star anise pods
- 3 cinnamon sticks
Instructions
- Add all ingredients to a pot and stir together.
- Set to medium heat for 15 minutes.
- Turn heat to low and let simmer.
- Ladle mulled wine into your vessel of choice and garnish with orange slices and cinnamon stick.
Enjoy responsibly!
